It's been a long, long time...

First, Happy Birthday [ profile] stevefoxx

I went back thru my posting history and realized I have not made a substantive post in quite some time.

I used to post quite regularly, weekly even, with ideas of importance.. and now? Not so much.

So, to Re-Cap;

I got laid off in December of 2010, I then;
Went to a RAIn BOD meeting in Whidbey Island.
Drove down to LA, spent a month.
Spent a month with my "It's Complicated" (Mate) in San Jose.
Went to FC2010.
Went back to LA for January Prancing Skiltare Party.
Drove back to the bay to visit with [ profile] tamino
Drove home, visited with HunterKitty in Eugene on the way out.

I then came back and found a job at a Data Center.

I miss the conversations, and wide social network I had 3-4 years ago, I need to stop looking inward and start looking outword again.

I also have a partner (kinda), something I at some point I need to post about?

Is LiveJournal dying? god I hope not, the alternatives suck.

LJ may wither away, but the general concept is sound IMO. JIC it -does- go toes-up, I also have an account now at dreamwidth =
... which has the same layout and general formatting. I pretty much use the dreamwidth account as a back up [along with LJ & Facebook] to post the meeting minute notes from BASFA =
... but unless LJ folds, I'm staying here. ^_^

From my point of view LJ ain't dying as long as there's interaction between friends.

Unfortunately, many friends view this as a one-way street.

This, then makes it so that less people respond to their post. I have one friend who posts daily. Most of the time he gets zero response. He never reads, or responds to any of his friend's blogs!

One the other hand, however, if you're big, all you gotta do is post a pix with one word: "Hello," and you'll get about 25 offers for sex and friendship.

Just my 2ยข.

You know, every time I see someone with a big grey beard, I think of you now :-P

Maybe I ought to post more pictures then.

My opinion is that the more cerebral the post..the less attention it will get. People seem to be after instant gratification these days.

[identity profile] 2011-07-01 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This has been largely true for me. I think the majority of what I post is long enough that people don't bother with it. But It's stuff I want to write, at least for myself, so... *shrugs*

LJ isn't dying. It just smells funny. Kind-of like cheap vodka!

Right now, the new hotness is Google+, but that's probably because it's invitation only right now, and all the furries are cumming in their pants because they can score an invite from their techno-weenie friends.

And Facebook, of course, but Facebook is ballooning into the overheated-and-sold-for-a-trillion-dollars category of the speculative markets because people actually believe there's quadrillions to be made from targeted advertising.

I honestly do not want another social networking site.

LJ is still here, at least for those of us that can think in more than 140 character status updates or tweets. Some of the flighty folks have flown, but LJ has added some tools to allow you to cross post, if you wish, to keep them informed as well. Alas, far too often, those birdies are too flighty to return to this coop to comment, even thought they could.

Welcome back. Sounds like you've had this thing called life keep you busy. Trust me, I know that feeling all too well.

Is LJ dying? Yes and no.. It's slowed down substantially. Some bloggers went to FB and Twitter. Some folks simply walked away from blogging altogether because the time isn't there for them anymore. As for myself, I've got to maintain web presence on FB, MySpace (which is dead), FetLife and various modeling sites. Do I get to write much anymore?... Not really. Between family and work (drama) I've been reading, but not had much writing time.

[identity profile] 2011-07-01 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I read, but I have not been writing as much as I would like.

Hey, thanks Robert! *hugs*

I wasn't updating as much as I once did for quite a while. Part of that is my life has been happily busy and I'm not home in front of the computer as much as I was.

But I really like LJ and the interactions and friends I've had there, so I'm consciously trying to update more often and interact with people more. I'd like LJ to still be here, and for there to still be neat new people I can look forward to finding.

Yup...LJ dying, traffic down, postings rare.... Killed by Twitter mostly. Agree tis sad

[identity profile] 2011-07-01 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
LJ is probably not dying anymore... I think it's already dead o.o

[identity profile] 2011-07-01 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Pfft. I'm still here. I just have it reposting to FB.

[identity profile] 2011-07-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I got addicted to Twitter. I'm trying to claw my way back....

[identity profile] 2011-07-02 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Twitter has whittled away peoples' attention spans to the point no one can really devote attention to something as involved as an actual journal (myself included, sadly. I neglect the hell outta this site)

[identity profile] 2011-07-03 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
i tried to tweet. epic fail. when i get into it, i can't stop at 140 characters. obviously i'm not hardcore tonight, but it's good to see you anyway.
