So, In November of this year, I will celebrate a wonderful 5 years in Western Washington, a couple observations stick with me:

The Bad.

  1. You people still cannot drive.
  2. Merging is a foreign concept, people drive 45 till the end of the acceleration lane, then try to merge.
  3. 'Old Man with Pickup Truck' or 'Subaru Driver' will never exceed 45 MPH on the Freeway.
  4. If your doing the speed limit, please move out of the fast lane.
  5. Seattle Nice is a real thing.
  6. Tourists are clueless here too, thankfully unlike in Southern California, they only come 4 months a year.
  7. People are amazed when I tell them I make a 45 mile one way trip for Del Taco.
  8. There is no In-N-Out.
  9. The cellular deadzone in the middle of the Ship Canal Bridge is annoying.
  10. Hipsters annoy me, hence I avoid Cap Hill, Belltown and Lower Queen Anne.

The Good.

  1. 13 Coins is amazing, 24 Hour fine dining is a wonder to behold.
  2. Ivars Salmon House is also a similar wonderful thing.
  3. Weather - Most of the time its so pleasant, even if pleasant might be cold.
  4. I dont need Air Conditioning.
  5. 90 Miles to Fish on Rice
  6. Friends - I have some of the best friends in the world up here.
  7. RainFurrest is the best furry convention in the world
  8. Jobs - If you want work, come to Seattle, there are lots of jobs to go around.
  9. Housing is Cheap - you can get a 2 bedroom as little as a half hour from Downtown for 800 a month.
  10. Social Scene - The Fandom here is active, lots going on, lots to do.

Overall, I'm happy, I miss sunshine sometimes, I miss warmer weather sometimes, I miss real community, but I'm happy here.

One of my personal driving rules: keep your distance from any car that has mountains and/or trees on its license plate. There's a better than 50/50 chance the driver is whack. (This includes cars from Washington, Oregon, B.C., Idaho, and Colorado. Overall the worst drivers in the West, IMHO.)

BTW, they don't have In-N-Out in my part of California, either, alas. Or jobs...

Redding however is not that far from you, twoish hours IIRC.

Haven't been to Redding in five years. Need more reasons to go than just to get a hamburger. Will be going to L.A. this September, though. My In-N-Out urge will be satisfied then!
