So, it's been about 3 weeks since I stopped eating meat, just meat though, I still eat all the other foods I ate before, and honestly, I feel the best I have in years.. though I had a call with my mom:

(me) So Mom, I gave up eating meat
(Mom) All meat, even fish, bacon, and pork?
(me) are those things meat?
(Mom) Yes!
(me) Well, then there is your answer.
(Mom) *laughing* Alright, I get it, no meat.

I also think I smell better.

Any vegetarian cookbook suggestions?

Good for you!

So why have you gone vegetarian? Is it for dietary reasons or ethical reasons or both?

Linda McCartney's cookbook has some good recipes in it.

In fact, I'm sure a little googling will find you any number of veggie recipes.

"Real Thai" by Nancie McDermott. Lots of nice spicy recipes where the meat can be left out to no harm or replaced by tofu.

The Enchanted Broccoli Forest (clicky) is a pretty decent cookbook. Whatever you do, don't become a douchebag vegetarian. No one cares what you eat as long as you don't constantly remind people and nag. /former vegetarian.

Vegetarians are best served with some fava beans and a nice bottle of chianti

[livejournal.com profile] ext_227120 is a good friend of mine. While his partner does like meat on occasion, 'Tivo himself is also vegetarian. He and his partner put out a cookbook most years, with lots of good recipes. You might drop him a line and ask if he'd mind sharing some of the PDF copies with you.

"Vegetarian Cooking For Everyone" by Deborah Madison. It's huge- like 1400 recipes- and has a lot of good information on cooking techniques, sauces, presentation, and the like. It's a really nice reference.

Good luck on the new diet. ^^

I've tried to go vegetarian, but my body tends to react not-so-good if i don't gorge on processed cold cuts often. Wonder if they put drugs in processed meart these days to make them addictive.

I'm still a carnivore. I think you're doing an awesome thing though. Just make sure you're getting adequate and complete proteins. Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Mmmn! Really greasy, french fries! With extra iodized salt, to protect you from radiation.
