I want to make it clear..

Silver and Sage (A working name at the moment.) is not meant to compete with Califur in anyway, nor for that matter, any other convention at least no more then two conventions would compete normally.

I do not see the position I hold on the board of FENEC to be in Conflict with what im doing here, nor would I see any conflict if I were doing any staff job at Califur, for if we do this right they will be complimentary and contribute to what Califur and every other convention is doing.

If you disagree with me, you have this space to air your complaints or tell me in person at Califur, I will not delete comments, nor will the post go friends only.

Please Keep Comments to issues relating to conflict of Interest Issues.

Currently being in las Vegas has me wondering about the practiaclity of it.

Venue shopping will be difficult as it may be difficult to mix fursuits and gambling. I just cannot see myself making he long trek from hotel room to function spaces in most of these hotels because of the way they are ALL laid out. You have to go through a MASSIVE casino to get from the elevators to the ballrooms, AND there is usually a shopping mall to walk along the way, as well, full of people drinking, and eating...

At least there is no more indoor smoking here.

It will be interesting to see if Las Vegas has an venues that can handle fursuiters.

you go off the strip and you find hotel's that are better suited to this event, Ive seen them, the function space has its own elevator to the guest rooms, or the guest rooms are on their own floor.

These are some questions I think people will ask. So you might want to get the answers to them.

Has the Fennec aka Califur board officially voted to allow one of their board members to serve on the board of another convention? Its not a conflict of interest per se but its better to go the extra mile on such things.

Is Fennec a 501c whatever yet?

What kind of corporate structure is planned for this convention? When will it be in place?

Good luck finding a date that works. Thats the hard thing nowadays.

Best of luck...

I've spoken to 3 board members who dont feel it is a problem.

501(c)7.

The ConCom, would function as a tightly regulated committee of the board, with all long term planning and capital improvements controlled by the board, I'm still unsure as to if non-profit or not its something im going to look into, and decide with whatever staff I have on hand that the time, I have decided that if it is not a non-profit, I will be headquartered in Nevada, for tax reasons.
I'm open to all suggestions and ideas on what our structure should be, but I want to get a hotel before I start generating my 3.6 mountains of paperwork to send in, because frankly, I think it would be silly to go to all the trouble to find out there is no venue which meets our needs.

Robert, we should talk. Sorry haven't been around much but I have been busy. Was planning to talk to you at Califur about this and I have a unique idea to having a con in Vegas. I am looking to see if Albufurque can sponsor this...seriously more later.

Sounds exciting :) I would like to go hehe
When we (furs in NJ) were starting FA:United, alot of furs thought we were doing it to compete with some other cons in the area, and that was totally not the case, we do it for fun, and we volunteer and staff other cons, it's all fun and furry, I don't really see conflicts of interest, and since no profit is being made in most cases of conventions, I don't see a need to compete..

Right now there is something going on every month.. IMO the more the merrier :)

I would think that as long at CF and this new con aren't going on on the same weekend, how would they be competing? I, for one, LOVE cons. If there was one every month within reasonable distance, I'd go to all of them and support each and every one of them.

Competing gives me the idea of stealing members away. If anything, I think people would love one more reason a year to get out of the house for the weekend.
